Reflections

As I attend to my second semester at the U as a DMA student, I have learned much about myself.

Reflection is an interesting concept.  In many instances, we commute, digest, and communicate much better after a moment of reflection.

In one the courses I take here at the U, we are encouraged to write a weekly reflection on the past curriculum/class content.  This assignment has proven fairly easy, as I complete these page reflections quite effortlessly.

There's something about letting your thoughts solidify into words and sentences.  - Your brain seems to take the ideas floating through your mind and form them compactly into solid blocks of information and knowledge.

So what have I learned thus far?

I've learned that procrastination is the root of failure.  - When we procrastinate, we cause a chain reaction of mistakes that lead to increasingly bigger and bigger mistakes.

Organization is key.  - When we keep a scheduled calendar and write things down, we tend to get more done.  This has required a lot of self-control on my part.

Be genuine and stay in your lane. - No matter what, stay true to your values, your principles, and don't try fitting in so much! - There is nothing in the world that is worth compromising your values and standards, and the people who belong in your life with respect this.

Stop worrying about what others think.  - It's extremely easy to overthink things.  This is a work in progress for me.  I think TOO much, and sometimes I get carried away with thoughts that are simply not true.

Life can be overwhelming, and sometimes you feel like you're at the very bottom of its spectrum, but there is always much to be learned from optimism, so stay optimistic, and don't forget to reflect.

Listen

listen

I don’t want to hear about your accomplishments.

I don’t want your list of dids and dones.

I don’t care for the gold you made,

The price you’ve paid.

I don’t want your plastered mask so carefully set.

I don’t want the humble brag you meticulously let.

Don’t fill my life with all that noise.

We’re all just growing girls and boys.

We need some peace — simplicity.

So cool it down. That’s my one just plea.
